What are College Students Doing for Fun during a Pandemic?

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed how we do things. Life in lockdown and social distancing can be a struggle. While college students can still continue their classes online, they need to engage in fun activities to motivate them and improve their mental health. However, it is challenging to keep engaging in the previous fun activities. As such, college students have to adapt and change their fun activities. Here are some things that college students are doing for fun during a pandemic.

  • Playlist. Students who are musicians can encourage each other to contribute to a collaborative playlist. They can have a playlist of the day and invite people to listen to their set of songs. Some students have also created songs with song titles that cleverly allude to digital technology or dealing with change.

  • Dance Parties. College students can also dedicate some time each day or week to virtual dance parties. Mornings are excellent times to tweet out a video of a catchy pop tune. In the afternoon, a virtual school song or another song from a known band.

  • Movie Discussions. Go ahead and make a students’ day. Pick a movie or a TV show that can be streamed for free from some of the best free movie sites. College students can watch the movie during their free time, gather online, and discuss their favorite bits and the relevance of the storyline.

  • Paint Classes. A talented student or an art instructor can host an online paint class. The instructor will guide the students through a fairly simple landscape or object to paint. Most colleges will not have paint supplies, but the video can be relaxing and fun. The video can also be interactive, with students making suggestions to the instructor.

  • Video Performance. Acting majors or theatre troupe performers who rehearse in the school’s hall only to have their performances canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic can perform through video conference. Pulling a full-scale production may be challenging, but a monologue or broadway show can be highly entertaining. A band or a capella group can perform, with each member doing their part from home.

  • Hobby Webinars. Webinars consist of several talented people who wish to transfer their art to the younger generation. College students who participate learn something new, and the experienced hobbyist will also get some fun and teaching experience. Alternatively, college students can search YouTube tutorials to watch together.

  • Live Game Shows. Tools like Kahoot and Quizizz challenge students for a fun round or rounds of trivia. Students can get creative with themes that are either serious or hawky. Each day’s top scorer can earn the privilege of creating the next day’s questions.

  • ESports Tournament. E-Spots are one of the few activities that COVID-19 cannot put a damper on. Most institutions already have varsity eSports programs. However, less e-athletically inclined students can create intramural teams. The veterans can teach the newbies how to play.

These activities are fun and ideal for getting involved in instead of engaging in binge drinking
