Our Annual Domino’s Pizza Tradition

I actually had to Google Domino’s Pizza because I thought it was spelled with an e. When I was doing my tiny bit of research for this quick blog, I was shocked. I had no idea that Domino’s stock was nearly $400 a share. I considered purchasing some when it was $30 a share and I almost wish I did. We’re not here to discuss finances, although money definitely has a role to play in Domino’s success. Let’s talk about our annual tradition of getting Domino’s.

Once a year, we order a ton of Domino’s and have a lazy night. We don’t track it on a calendar, so it isn’t that strict but we definitely don’t have it often. I can’t remember when we started doing this, but I’d say it is somewhere around 5-7 years old. I don’t think we’ve ever written about it before but there is a reason why we are now. Many of us are probably going through the hardest times of our lives. Employment is an issue. I haven’t been able to coach at the club in over three months. We’re forced into quarantine. This lifestyle works well for some, like myself, but not much for others who require being social. We’re facing a ton of stress. Health is a concern. A lot is going on and the last thing anyone needs to be, is hard on themselves.

I’ve already lost two friends, who have decided to take their own lives, during this pandemic. I know a lot of people feel like a failure because they were fired and can’t find a new job. A lot of people feel like a failure because they’ve gained back all the weight that they lost. Everyone is struggling and we need to be supportive. We’re all human. No one is perfect.

I’m disclosing our Domino’s tradition now to show you all that we’re far from perfect. We usually don’t eat junk food or support big brands. We’re typically very conscientious of our protein consumption. Generally, we try to avoid companies that pay their employees poorly, but no one is perfect. Trying to be flawless can really get to you over time and allowing some flexibility helps a lot.

We just hope you understand that it is okay to give yourself a little slack during these times. It might be a time where survival is more important than thriving. Those big goals can wait until this all blows over, even if it takes some time. Don’t be too hard on yourself or those that you love. We ate this all last week. Only one slice of pizza wasn’t consumed. Be human. We’re here for you. If you want, feel free to share one interesting tradition that you have.

Stay hungry and fit!
