Buying Exercise Equipment for Home (During Quarantine)

We’ve been getting tons of questions about this lately. People who work out every day at the gym are stuck at home without equipment and don’t want to lose their progress. With no end in sight for the quarantine, especially in order to combat poor eating habits at home, people are trying to put together home gyms in order to maintain their progress, or prevent gaining fat/losing muscle mass. There are a few challenges though…

  1. They don’t know what equipment to buy.
  2. They don’t know what brand/model to buy.
  3. They don’t know where to buy it.
  4. Many companies are backordered.
  5. Local markets (Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up, Let Go, Craigslist) are all home to price gouging.

This video on YouTube will help you with some recommendations/tips for cardio equipment at home. To summarize part of it, look for less commercial pieces that don’t have a ton of moving parts or electronic components, such as a Schwinn Airdyne or Indoor Cycling Bike, such as the ones we have (below) in our home gym.

As for free weights, please do not feed into the price gouging. I’ve listed a bunch of screenshots from local deals that are absolutely unjustifiable. You should never pay $3 per pound for the lowest quality plates or dumbbells. You really shouldn’t pay over $1 a pound, unless you’re buying a barbell, kettlebells, or something from a premium company.

There are still good deals out there, as you can see in the photo below. If you’re having a hard time figuring out if something is worth it, just ask us!

You need to consider durability, your goals and also resale value. You don’t want to pay $1000 for a Marcy Mutli-Gym that you’re only going to get $50 for when all of this is over.

This deal is beyond terrible. You can make your own for less than $10.

Stay vigilant, and hungry and fit! (And don’t buy anything from a guy named Craig Champagne on New Orlean’s FB Marketplace. His deals are probably the worst we’ve seen, but there have been about 5-6 guys between here and Baton Rouge who are clearly price gouging.)
