Home Gym Essentials 101

Life at home during this pandemic has proven to be quite chaotic. We all have been trying to figure out a way to navigate through this new way of life. Working from home for long hours with virtually no social life beyond our family members has left us astray. We aren’t even connecting with our colleagues and seniors who we met daily at work.

What’s more? Staying on top of our fitness routine is getting tough, especially with public gyms and fitness centers shut through these times of social distancing and self-isolation.

In these unprecedented times, it’s easy for fitness to take a back seat. However, with some commitment and smart work you can maintain a fit body and mind from the safety of your home. How? Set up a workout corner or a home gym!

Buying Exercise Equipment for Home (During Quarantine)

We’ve been getting tons of questions about this lately. People who work out every day at the gym are stuck at home without equipment and don’t want to lose their progress. With no end in sight for the quarantine, especially in order to combat poor eating habits at home, people are trying to put together home gyms in order to maintain their progress, or prevent gaining fat/losing muscle mass. There are a few challenges though…

  1. They don’t know what equipment to buy.
  2. They don’t know what brand/model to buy.
  3. They don’t know where to buy it.
  4. Many companies are backordered.
  5. Local markets (Facebook Marketplace, Offer Up, Let Go, Craigslist) are all home to price gouging.

This video on YouTube will help you with some recommendations/tips for cardio equipment at home. To summarize part of it, look for less commercial pieces that don’t have a ton of moving parts or electronic components, such as a Schwinn Airdyne or Indoor Cycling Bike, such as the ones we have (below) in our home gym.

WE GOT CHICKENS!

We got chickens. It is late. I’m tired. It is dark outside. We don’t have any good pictures, but I’m too excited and needed to make this announcement. We added four hens to the family.  More info coming tomorrow! Here is a teaser picture. Stay hungry and fit!

We’re Getting Chickens!

A few weeks ago, before the pandemic really took off, we were dealing with some really stressful times. My computer stopped working. A delivery driver hit the side of our house. Both of our cars stopped working. It was the perfect storm, before this actual perfect storm. As soon as I replaced the starter in the CR-V and had it working again, we hooked up a U-Haul trailer and drove out to Thibodaux... to pick up a chicken coop… for chickens!

We Moved to New Orleans!

If you haven’t noticed through our social media, we moved to New Orleans! We are now home owners! It’s been a wild five months; we’ve experienced a hurricane, fostered a pregnant dog, painted a whole house, just to name a few.

Why leave Los Angeles? Well, we’d been ready to leave Los Angeles for quite some time. Although we had family there, we didn’t really fit into the lifestyle anymore. Los Angeles is incredibly expensive and it doesn’t fit well into the simple monthly budget template we set up. In all actuality, it doesn’t make much sense to live there unless you’re part of the entertainment industry. It’s a real grind and traffic is a pill. We wanted to slow down a bit, collect some more savings before we made the big trip across the pond to New Zealand.

This Month on Hungry & Fit

November is upon us and in many parts of the United States, temperatures are finally starting to drop a bit. Last night, it was in the 40s here in New Orleans, which led to a lot of trick-or-treaters staying indoors. We still had about forty kids come by and yes, despite being healthy, we don’t see a major problem with Halloween. It is one night.
