Boulder’s Best Burger is at 4580
I love burgers. And when I can’t make it to White Manna in Hackensack (NJ) I’m never happy with the burger that I eat. In terms of international burger quality, I somewhat recently had what was most likely my best burger outside of the United States in New Zealand at Burger Fuel but I’ve struggled to find a burger I really enjoy while living in Boulder the last few years.
I’ve eaten in their entirety the best burgers that The Buff, The Med, The Cork, Mountain Sun, Smashburger, Snarfburger, Mustard’s Last Stand, FATE Brewing Company, Five Guys, Turley’s, and many other popular locations in town. I won’t go into detail about those experiences here but I will say that Restaurant 4580 has been awarded “Hungry’s Best Burger & Fries” in Boulder, Colorado. Here’s why.
Value: About $10 for the standard burger with lettuce, tomato, and onions. And fries, of course. I add blue cheese and bacon for an extra $2.50, which is well worth it. So you have $12.50 for a plate that will fill up the vast majority of just about anyone’s stomach. (Trust me, I can eat more than you!)
Taste: They always have a chef’s choice burger that changes every week but you can make it how you want. The flavor profile created by the high quality basic ingredients with the bite of the blue cheese and the fat of the bacon create a confusing yet delightful feeling on your taste buds.
Cooking it Right: When I ask for Medium-Rare a touch on the rare side, they make it that way. Other locations listed above have made the burgers much further done than I ordered. The onions are also grilled, which is far better than getting a slab of raw red onion on your burger. That is just lazy.
The Fries: These might easily be the best fries in Boulder. They are crispy but never overcooked. They are not dry but also are not soaked in grease. The portion size is great and the kicker is the course salt they use to dress the fries. They’re amazing and never make it home.
There you have it. Those are my reasons that after tasting many of Boulder’s burgers I am telling you stop by 4580 for one. It is reasonably priced for the portion (steak is mixed into the burger patty), you can customize the burger so the taste is spot on, they cook it how you want it done, and the fries are simply the best. Also, 4580 just had a very nice remodel done so it’s worth checking it you. (I also highly recommend the spinach-artichoke dip. Fit claims it is the best she has ever had!)
Obviously, I have not had EVERY burger in Boulder and I have been told Reuben’s is the best, but people also told me that I would like Smashburger so trust no one and find out for yourself. But trust me if you want to stay hungry and fit!

Stuffed Strawberries (4th of July Recipe)
This is a re-post of a recipe made last year, but it was so good, I had to bring it up again! It’s a perfect 4th of July recipe and it’s healthy and delicious. Sure, pie and such are popular on Independence Day, but you can’t beat this. You get your sweet fix without the heaviness of the usual foods. This special dish involves fruit, dairy, and happiness and doesn’t take longer than 15-20 minutes to make! I got it from here and added a bit of lemon into it and took out some sugar.
- a tin of strawberries (I just usually get the regular pound at the grocery)
- a tin of blueberries (same thing)
- 5 oz marscapone
- juice of a lemon
- lemon zest
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Wash the fruit and pat dry all of it
- Take the strawberries and cut the green ends off and also a little portion of the tip so they can stand upright on a platter
- Take a melon baller and ball out of the bottom, creating a crevasse.
- Once your strawberries are all "pitted" and plated, let's turn to the filling. Put 5 ounces of marscapone cheese and put it in a small-medium bowl
- I would next do the lemon juice. Cut the lemon in half and squeeeeeze all that juice out.
- Next, grind the lemon on a grater and get a good amount of zest (people say 1 tsp, but I eyeball it)
- Then, throw the powdered sugar and vanilla in and stir! Mix it all up really well
- Now comes the most difficult part: take the marscapone mixture and put it into a re-sealable bag and snip a corner off. Use this contraption to fill the pits in the strawberries up with the mixture
- Once all the strawberries are filled to perfection, place the blueberries on top of the cream in the strawberries. And that's it!

Healthy Huevos Rancheros
This brunch favorite can be yours in ten minutes or less! Okay, sorry that sounded like a sales pitch, but I’m super passionate about this dish. My spin on it is delicious and healthy! It’s always my go-to when I don’t feel like doing a lot of cooking, but still want to stay on the nutritious side. It’s pretty simple and I’m always happy eating it. Let’s try it out.
- 1/2 can black beans
- 1/2 tomato
- 1/2 handful of spinach
- 1 egg
- 1 tortilla
- salt and pepper
- hot sauce
- Heat up the beans in a pot
- Cook your egg
- Heat/toast your tortilla
- Put the beans down first, then the egg, then the veggies
- Either use your tortilla as a taco or rip it up and eat it with a fork alongside the other goodies
- Throw down some hot sauce and dive in!
- You can use different types of beans or greens
- You can add cheese as well

Fancy Up Your Popcorn
I am popcorn-obsessed. I blame it on my family who always has it for any tv/movie event. Like about every night. So what do I do? Any excuse there is…there will be popcorn involved. Castle tonight? Popcorn, obviously. Recorded show on Food Network? Popcorn. Show at the Cinemas? Popcorn…that I sneak in (don’t tell!). I really like popcorn. But Hungry doesn’t really like popcorn (I know, it’s almost a deal-breaker). He’ll eat it if I start giving him some, but he would never start the pop himself. So as he was leaving to walk Noke one night before we were gonna watch a new show on Food Network, he asked me to “fancy up” the popcorn. Quest accepted.
Now I’m not talking about regular fancy. I came up with Toblerone-fancy. Yes, that Swiss deliciousness was taking a visit to our bowl of popcorn. It’s incredibly easy. I learned how to make “homemade” chocolate sauces from watching my mum as she would often like to drizzle it on our homemade ice cream sundaes at home.
- 1 bag of popcorn
- 1/2 chocolate bar (Toblerone for best results)
- 1/3 cup milk (can be any kind you like--we used whole)
- Pop the popcorn
- Put chocolate and milk into a saucepan
- Turn on medium to low heat
- Stir fairly frequently at first and then let the chocolate settle into a sauce
- Once a smooth texture, drizzle over the popcorn
- You may have to play around with the amount of milk to chocolate ratio. You may have to add more milk or even tip some out. No worries, it will still be chocolate sauce no matter what!

If It Fits Your Macros (IIFYM)
For the past few weeks or so, I’ve been trying this fitness philosophy called “If It Fits Your Macros” (IIFYM). It’s a slightly controversial idea. People in the fitness industry love to argue and contest each other’s philosophies. I’m fairly open-minded and like to try new things. I did the whole strict clean-eating thing, did protein-shake only, fruit-only cleanses, and so forth. Strict bodybuilder clean-eaters don’t care for IIFYM. However, plenty of people adhere to IIFYM.
So, what is IIFYM? In this philosophy, you have a set number of calories you can intake based on if you want to cut (lose fat), maintain, or bulk (gain mass). From those total calories, your macros are split up. Macros (aka macronutrients) are your proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. You get a certain number of each (this site has a great calculator for it). For example, I have around 1930 calories per day, my designated protein intake is around 130g, fat is like 55g, and carbs hover around 230g.

In many fitness regimens, you are supposed to eat clean (no crap). However, in IIFYM, you can eat dirty IF it fits your macros. So if I eat cleanly and focus on high protein and medium fat/carbs, I can have a big ol’ bowl of ice cream later. Your diet revolves around “hitting your macros” in any way YOU choose. For some people, it’s great because it allows them to be flexible. For others, they can’t handle all the temptation. Some people don’t even believe it works because there’s “dirty” eating involved.
For me, it has gone fairly well. I don’t always hit my macros, sometimes because I don’t get all my suggested calories and sometimes because I go over a few. So far, I’m kind of liking it. It allows me treats but also sets a limit. Gives me some moderation. I’m not sure how long I will keep doing this, but I will stick with it for a bit longer. Tracking your nutrients is vital, I use MyFitnessPal (add me! “nanathetiger“). We may go back to strict clean-eating soon. Who knows!
It’s good to know all the fitness philosophies out there. Some (MANY) are fads, but it’s worth investigating to find out what works for YOU. There is no one-fits-all fitness regimen. Something could work perfectly for you, but completely fail for me. It’s important to try stuff out and see what your body and mind likes best. As always…stay hungry and fit!
