Our Top Travel Tips

We KNOW that you’ve seen a lot from us. Over the course of NEARLY 1200 posts/articles on the site, we’ve covered lots, but have stuck to our roots (food and fitness) for the most part. We’ve had guest posts from bloggers/writers all over the world and partnered with some really exciting companies (Silk; Optimum Nutrition) but there haven’t been many major changes.

While we only want to boost the quality of our content (more innovative workouts and recipes!), we’ve also been considering and working on other projects lately. There will be transitions, but Hungry & Fit will never be forgotten and we’ll make sure it is here for years to come. With that being said, there has been a trend over the years, where we’ve continued to receive tons of questions related to…

TRAVEL!

If you follow us on social media through the Hungry & Fit AND our personal accounts, you’d realize we travel a decent amount. As a result, we’re constantly being asked for a few things. As you’d expect, people want to know how to eat healthy and exercise while traveling for work and vacation. We usually handle these situations with customized plans for the individuals that ask, but there have been some “portable workouts” as well.

You might not expect, however, that nearly just as many people ask us for our top travel tips. They want to know where to find the best food in certain places. As “foodies,” we have a tendency to earn a lot of your trust when it comes to restaurant recommendations, and we greatly appreciate that. More surprisingly, people want to know how we manage to have such a fun time without spending a ton of money.

While we definitely are willing to splurge when it comes to food and experiences in any given place (Commander’s Palace in New Orleans; sitting near the floor at a Pelican’s game), there has to be some sacrifices. Usually, we save a lot of money by booking airfare wisely, walking instead of taking taxis AND finding great deals when it comes to shelter!

While we love the idea of Air B&B, because nothing says charming vacation or business trip like a one-of-a-kind experience, we’ve found the availability, prices and overall platform to lack consistency. While Holiday Inn Express might not be the most magical experience, they’ve definitely earned our loyalty in more than one country. (Clean rooms, free breakfast, fitness centers and reasonable rates… sounds pretty, great.)

Still, we’re always going to look for that unique experience at a reasonable price through a reliable service. That is what we’ve come to love about Hotel Tonight. When people ask us about a recent trip, they always ask where we stayed. We always end up telling them about Hotel Tonight and they have almost NEVER heard of the company. Hotel Tonight basically books rooms last minute for hotels that are registered with them at extraordinary prices. How does it work?

You’re driving into San Francisco, take out the app, plug in your info and it gives you options for that night. You wake up the next morning, having paid $90 for a quaint and cozy room in the heart of the city. It sort of works like that. Now, to be transparent, we don’t have any relationship with Hotel Tonight, but we’re trying to! We reached out to them recently to “sponsor” our Hungry & Fit Honeymoon to Ireland, but have yet to hear back.

While we’re going to keep our fingers crossed, we’ll still use their service either way. If we don’t hear back soon, to be safe (since it is on the other side of the world) we’re going to book our rooms in advance through the most economical service we can find, but we want you to check them out, download their app and consider using their last-minute life-saving platform.

Oh, and if you happen to know anyone who works there, put in a good word. I think a Hungry & Fit and Hotel Tonight partnership could be pretty dang fun, and while we might not be turning into a travel blog, we’ve always been here to give the people what they want. Stay hungry and fit!
