6 Wellness Tips for College Athletes

Everyone knows that sports activities are great for building character and learning how to work with a team, whether it’s in little league or in a competitive college environment. Most high school and college athletes know that it’s important to make sure that they fuel up for the day ahead. However, with the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to overlook all the things that can ensure good health and wellness before hitting the field or the court. This is especially true for athletes who are going through a big transition—such as high school players who are heading off to college.

Milford’s On Third (Baton Rouge, LA)

When we were recently house hunting in Louisiana, we drove through the state capital of Baton Rouge. With a population of 1/4 million and the home to LSU’s ~30,000 students, you’d imagine the food between New Orleans and Lafayette (the heart of Cajun country) would be pretty good. It is. Unfortunately, there are a lot of very popular and extremely busy seafood restaurants and when you’re traveling, you don’t have time to wait for an hour or two. We didn’t even have enough time to find parking for those spots. After checking Yelp, we headed to the more historic downtown area, easily found a free parking spot in front of a beautiful church and walked in Milford’s on Third.

Leftover Magic: BBQ Brisket

If you’re anything like us, you usually make WAY too much food for important events, holidays and family get-togethers. If you went to our wedding, you’d know this. No one had any room in their stomachs left by the time first dessert was served. Second and third desserts weren’t even touched. I don’t think people even looked at them. For St. Patrick’s Day, we always make far too many corned beefs, and in some cases, we buy so many of them that we don’t even cook some. Either way, whether you have cooked ones sitting in the fridge or uncooked ones, we found a fun way to repurpose them… by making BBQ!

Celebrating Pi Day with the Best Pie Ever

March 14th aka 3/14 aka 3.14 aka Pi! There are so many new national days. National Pancake Day was earlier this week, although it feels as though we have a few of those every single year. Pi Day is one of those amazing “holidays” that you don’t get off work, but you still can celebrate by justifying the consumption of tons of pie. Pies are underrated and grossly under-appreciated. We typically, especially here in the United States, think of Apple Pie because it is All-American, but is apple pie even close to the best pie?

The Best Food on Hollywood Blvd: Dubai Sauce

Last April, a friend suggested we visit Dubai Sauce for lunch. Even though it is right down the block from where we live, we had never been. Why? We don’t eat food on Hollywood Blvd, at least near the Walk of Fame. Why? Because the food is generally awful. You can read about that first experience HERE. I decided to bring Fit last Friday and see if they’ve made any improvements; they have.

The Secret to Making Tacos at Home

Tacos are one of the greatest foods of all time. Fight me. They can be done in any manner of ways, but if you get the essentials right, they are little pockets of joy. Price ranges for tacos can vary—especially in Los Angeles. You can go to your local taco truck and get three tacos for $4 or you can go to a fancy trendy restaurant and pay $6 for one taco.

What Foods Are Considered Superfoods?

Superfoods are foods that are considered of high nutritional value. While there is no particular category of foods branded as the superfoods, the ones regarded as so help to keep diseases at bay and keep the body healthy. Despina Hyde, a New York dietician said that the term superfoods is used on foods with multiple health benefits and as reported by the American Heart Association, there is no set criteria for determining superfoods. With an idea of what superfoods are, let’s delve in some of the most popular superfoods and their benefits;

7 Tips for Studying and Traveling Abroad

Studying abroad is an exciting experience for students from the United States. During your studies and travels, you’ll experience a new culture and may possibly benefit from unexpected opportunities.

Still, international experiences can be overwhelming for some. One of the most important things that you can do to prepare for your big trip is to start a travel fund. This is a luxury expense that you contribute to after stashing away money for emergencies and retirement. Use a separate FIDC insured savings account to distance yourself from your travel bankroll and keep it safe.

Start saving early, and make deposits often. Furthermore, don’t wait to start saving until you’ve made all your plans. Once you’ve done this, you can adjust your savings so that your travel nest egg is on target by the time you leave for your trip.

The following sections reveal 7 more insightful and fun tips to prepare you for an overseas learning adventure.

Fit’s Favorite Blogs

The blogging community is a wonderful, supportive community. We started six years ago (wow!) and boy has it changed since. Back then, there weren’t many “social media influencers” and Instagram was barely a thing. It was much easier for bloggers because the market wasn’t flooded with them. People blog as a full-time gig now and they have to work hard to stay on top of things like SEO, market changes, and outreach. But still, it’s mostly a great community where bloggers support one another. For better or for worse, Hungry & Fit is still around to throw food and workouts at you. We wanted to take a moment and share with you blogs that inspired us to blog and also ones we have recently followed. Some are food blogs, some are health blogs, some are somewhere in between like us.
