Enjoy the refreshing sweetness of a creamy and tasty Venezuelan Chicha

Rice is more than a staple food consumed by half of the world’s population. Affordability, easy cultivation, climate adaptability, and cooking versatility are just some features qualifying rice as the preferred grain of all.

Countless recipes where rice is the star are well-known worldwide. Its mild flavor makes it possible to use it in various dishes from the most common savory ones to incredible desserts.

Its versatility even allows creating delightful and refreshing drinks since its delicate flavor is the perfect base for pairing with herbs and other components.

You will be surprised by knowing the various rice drinks there are worldwide. You will be even more surprised to find out that you may have tried some of these drinks without perceiving rice among the ingredients.

Le Cafe Eblouir (Gretna, LA)

Hungry & Fit are typically on the wrong side of the Mississippi River when it comes to the fun, cute places to hang out and eat. New Orleans and even Metairie have most of those spots, with a few exceptions in Algiers. Fortunately, earlier this year, we received a covid-related blessing in disguise. A local pastry chef, who had worked in hotels, decided to open up her own cafe instead of fighting to find a job in the recently unpredictable hospitality industry. Feast your eyes on the treats inside Le Cafe Eblouir!

Easy Vegan Golden Milk

Ever since I saw Minimalist Baker’s Golden Milk recipe, I had a hankering to try it. It just looked so inviting and warm with my favorite aromas wafting into the air. It also had a touch of the exotic to it and maybe made me think I would gain some special powers from it. So obviously…I whipped up my own version of Golden Milk! It was magical. The smoothness from the almond milk combined with the rich coconut milk makes it feel like a luxurious drink from some sort of fantasy world. The “exotic” spices transport you and the heat provides the ultimate comfort. I don’t really experiment with beverage recipes (except for my sangria), but after this one, I think will do so more.

Mutari: Serious Hot Chocolate in Santa Cruz, CA

Recently, we went on an amazing road trip up the California coast. Mutari is a little hot chocolate joint we visited in Santa Cruz, California. We stopped by to escape a rainy Santa Cruz night after dinner and before returning to our hotel on our trip up the coast. It was an experience. I’ll get straight to the point that I did not love their chocolate. But I loved their passion and it made everything taste a little better.

2016’s Best Pre-Workout

You might remember 2015’s Best Protein Powder and 2015’s Best Dog Food. Reviews.com has published a new study where they tested 309 different pre-workout supplements to find the best product on the market. We’ll give you the very abridged version and let you read the article here for yourself. Essentially, they used a filtration system to narrow down the big number through process of elimination. They would remove anything with banned/potentially harmful substances, then proprietary blends, then a certain amount of caffeine, then any artificial flavors/colors to figure out the cleanest product.

My Soylent Experiment

Well, this might be considered a failed experiment. Don’t take that the wrong way. I did this back in Q1 and now we’re in Q3. We made this into a YouTube review and I wanted to not make this too scientific for the general population, but this was released far later than expected. (Through this post on the blog…obviously, since you’re reading it.) Therefore, I want to keep this as simple and straightforward as possible. I’m going to give you the same feedback that I gave to the number of people who messaged me about this, while I was doing it and posting about it on social media.

White Wine Sangria

Hungry and I aren’t big drinkers. Hungry especially isn’t. I enjoy a glass of wine here and there, but nothing over the top. In fact, I often forget to drink. It’s a weird way to put it, but there it is. However, we both enjoy a good sangria. What is a sangria? Traditionally, it’s a red wine mixed with fruit, spices, and another drink. However, since expanding from Spain and Portugal, sangria creativity has taken off! Get us at an Italian restaurant with some beautiful antipasto and a wonderful main course and we will finish a whole carafe of the stuff.

The sangria I’ve prepared for you today is white wine-based instead of red. It’s different from the traditional, but it’s honestly quite delicious. I love playing around with different ways to make my sangria even to the point where I’m not quite sure it can be called a sangria anymore.

The Best Protein of 2016 [GIVEAWAY]

Is it really possible that I can make such a bold claim one week into the year? I haven’t even attended the Fit Expo, IDEA, IHRSA, or any of my other fitness conventions and I’m already sold on a new product? So, you’re probably wondering… what is it? Get to the point, right? Well, before I even get to that, I’m going to hype this up a little bit more and say that I think this will definitely be a contender for the best new supplement brand of 2016.

Getting Back At It

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and every night you have a holiday party booked. An ugly sweater here, a kiss under the mistletoe there, and one too many glasses of eggnog everywhere. As we look towards making resolutions for 2016, let’s try to survive 2015 first and as we’re shoving endless calories and drinks down our throats, let’s try to balance that with something to help us recover.
