This is, arguably, one of the worst instances of poor gym etiquette that you might ever find. A video documenting the situation is available for viewing below. Before you watch it, I will say that the commentator is a lawyer and fitness personality who usually provides caustic commentary on exercises done improperly. Some can find him offensive, but many find him quite entertaining. It may not be safe for work, so keep that in mind before playing the video.
If you’ve watched the video, you would have seen that one gym member assaulted another gym member because he was unhappy that he was making too much noise while deadlifting. There really isn’t any need for us to talk about either member in depth, since it really doesn’t matter what they’re wearing, or anything along those lines. This is absolutely, positively, never acceptable and should have serious repercussions.
Since there is video footage of what occurred, the management at the gym can act accordingly. I think, at this point, their head of operations reached out to offer the member that was assaulted a lifetime membership for his whole family. I have not heard of what has transpired with the other member. He should have his membership terminated, with no refund issued, and he should also be banned for life.
When I was managing a large fitness facility, I had a great relationship with the other local managers, even though they were the competition. If I was in their place, I would reach out to the other managers in the area and warn them about this volatile member, because he could do a lot more damage than what was done here. There could have been a serious injury sustained. The man deadlifting can and absolutely should press charges against the man in the Animal shirt, and depending on his contract at the gym, he may very well be able to press charges against them as well.
Without knowing the context of the situation, it is hard to tell if the gym handled this situation appropriately. I’m not sure if they were already aware that this member was dangerous. If a staff or manager knew about this man’s behavior from past experiences and failed to report it or act on it, it could lead to their termination after this event. It is important to create a safe environment, considering the liabilities associated with being inside a facility with heavy equipment. Any incident should be reported properly.
While the man deadlifting may have been making more noise than he should have, there is no reason to touch someone else in the gym, unless they have asked for your assistance, or unless they need your assistance and are unable to ask for it. Do not touch anyone at the gym. Whether you’re angry or interested in someone of the opposite gender, you need to respect others, especially in this environment.
Stay hungry and fit!
Holy moly, that could cause serious long term damage. Geez.
You’d think that he would’ve thought a little of what that could have done before hand!
I doubt it, they are a definite type, those that do stuff like that.
