Treadmill Interval Workout for Non-Runners

For some of you, running outdoors at the moment could be a serious hazard to your life (who doesn’t love running on ice)? For some of you, it’s actually too hot to “comfortably” (when have I ever felt comfortable running) to run outdoors? And then many people simply dread the treadmill. Who wants to just run in one place at the same pace staring ahead? Not always the most fun. That’s why we have interval training to spice things up and make the time fly!

What is a treadmill interval workout, you ask? Basically, it’s intervals of different speed. And because we’re doing a beginner to intermediate session, the intervals will be a little longer. Let’s get started:

IMG_4294

First 5 minutes: Warm-up at 2.5 mph walk

5th minute: Sprint at 8-9mph

6th minute: Walk at 3.5mph

7th minute: Sprint at 8-9 mph

8th minute: Walk at 3.5mph

And go back and forth until you reach the 25th minute

Last 5 minutes: Cool-down at 2.5 mph walk

Put an audiobook on, a podcast, your favorite playlist, a tv show–anything! You will be surprised how quickly this workout goes. If this is too hard for you, shorten the sprint to 30 seconds. If you need to bump it up, shorten the rest to 30 seconds. You will be sputtering, sweating, and gasping for breath by the end of it and that’s how I like it. I do not enjoy running, but I actually don’t mind this workout. Do treadmill workouts to stay hungry and fit!
