Good Vibes Meditation

Life is this unruly, un-tamable, do-what-it-wants wild thing. It doesn’t really care how you feel, it does what it wants. Sometimes, it is great. Life is on your side, the birds are singing, you got your flow on, and you smile at the world. And then, well, life is moody, so it changes on you in a flash (whether that’s a death, break-up, job loss, or anything else). Where once the birds that sang to you now crap on you and it’s hard not to raise a fist to the world. We’ve learned (through much failure and struggle) that we can’t control life or what happens to us (to a certain degree), but we can change how we react to the world. I love this quote by Maya Angelou

You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them. Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.

And that’s what we’re here to do today. Maybe life is treating you well, maybe you’re on life’s bad side right now, either way, it helps to spread some good energy. So let’s get going on a good vibes meditation.

Sit if you can. Close your eyes and start to breathe with purpose.

Focus on your breath. Feel how it expands and contracts within you. If it helps, count the inhales and exhales until you get to ten and then repeat. 

Once you feel settled and focused, let your head and mind feel weightless. Melt into the world and imagine yourself floating up into it. Stay here for a few moments, bask in the feeling. 

Absorb yourself in this quiet moment. It’s these quiet moments that serve us so much peace and refresh our stressed minds. Our culture is obsessed with being busy, like it’s a badge of honor. Shake that obsession off just for these few minutes and enjoy this quiet time with yourself. Find peace. 

Put your hands in prayer form in front of your heart and bow your head. Continue that steady-paced breathing and quiet, peaceful feeling.

Imagine positive energy radiating off of you. Everyone’s will be different. For example, when I imagine mine, I see a glow of blue starting to lift from my body and spread around into the air. Maybe yours is a different color or maybe yours takes a different form completely. 

Once you see your energy, imagine that good energy going to various people. Go with the first people or places that come to your mind, follow those instincts. Send that good energy radiating from you all the way to where they are. Maybe they’re in the other room, or another city, or another state, country, etc. It doesn’t matter. Your good energy has no bounds, it is limitless. Imagine that good energy going to those people. When you’re ready, move on. 

Start to bring awareness back to your body. Find your breath once more, replenishing you with oxygen. Move your neck, eyes closed, and your hands. 

Move your prayer-form hands to the middle of your forehead and bow toward the floor in your seated posture. Bow to the world and all others. Find your humility and gratitude for the world and be happy. Open your eyes when you’re ready.

How do you feel now? Is your heart a little lighter? It really brought me around when I did it and I exited the meditation thinking of that person. It’s the little things you can do that can change your perspective to life that will guide you to be a bit more happier. Bask in the good energy, stray away from the complaints and misery. It isn’t easy, that’s for sure, but you’ll never get there if you don’t try. Good vibes, everyone, and stay hungry and fit!
