4 Things People Need to Meditate at Home

Everyone experiences some sort of stress; whether it is stress from family members, stress from a spouse or just stress from daily life. Sadly it’s an unavoidable part of life, but there are ways for you to relieve some of the mental pressure you’re feeling on a day to day basis. Meditation is one easy way for people to unwind after a long day, and you don’t even need to leave your home. Let’s take a look at four things you need to start meditating at home today.

An Interview with LAMA

Last year, LAMA reached out to us to conduct an interview. We get dozens of emails every week. People either want us to review a product, write for their website, write for our website, etc. I was intrigued by LAMA. It was a video based platform where journalists interview founders and entrepreneurs in an effort to share useful information with others. If you visit their website, you’ll see countless interviews with motivational and successful individuals.

Welcome to Our New Home!

As some of you may know, we’ve been planning on moving to New Orleans, Louisiana. We wanted to find a place that could match the cultural strength of Los Angeles… with A LOT less people, and traffic. Alana loved NOLA/The Big Easy/The Crescent City after helping out when Hurricane Katrina hit. She always wanted to take me there and we finally visited for the first time during their Tricentennial, which was early last year. She was worried that I wouldn’t enjoy their drinking culture, but I didn’t mind. Sure, the tourists on Bourbon Street were annoying, but the locals on Frenchmen Street were great! I didn’t have my trombone with me, but if I did, I surely would’ve joined their impromptu marching band at midnight.

How to Use Yelp

There’s a good chance that the only time you’ve heard about Yelp, it didn’t help you build trust in their brand. They’ve had a ton of bad publicity and we’ve actually had plenty of negative experiences with them, but let’s focus on the positive. Here in LA, Jonathan Gold’s 101 list is the “gold standard” for where to eat. LA Weekly just came out with a 99 Essential Restaurant list, and we can’t help but think that whoever compiled that list was GREATLY influenced by Gold. Sadly, even here in LA, very few people outside of the food industry know who he is.

It can be hard to find good places to eat and most people aren’t willing to do a ton of research. They don’t want to Google “best food critic in LA” and then read through Gold’s hundreds of reviews over the year. Instead, we look for more convenient options. Whether it is a reflection of our laziness or desire to save time, services that compile reviews have become extremely popular. Rotten Tomatoes is a great resource for movies, Amazon for consumer goods and Metacritic for video games. While Yelp is far from a household name, it does provide that similar service for businesses… especially places to eat!

There are two ways to use Yelp. You can either check out reviews as a guest or you can become a user and review businesses. Technically, a third way exists, as a business owner but we’re not going that direction today. As a guest, you can quickly type in “sushi” in New York and get an idea where the restaurant is, how much it costs, when it is open and what the population thinks about the food. While we don’t necessarily agree with the aggregate scores of certain places, and while we don’t necessarily trust Yelp’s filter, you’re much better off using Yelp than just walking into the first place you see.

Join Team Hungry & Fit

For some of you, it’s been over 1000 emails. While we might not send out weekly, monthly, quarterly or even annual newsletters, we send nearly 2000 of you emails at least five days a week. Those emails are our posts and if you’ve been following us for a long time, you’ve seen posts that talk about personal issues, animals, nerdy stuff, and obviously… eating and exercise. At the end of the day, or five years in this case, everything comes back to our mission.

At Hungry & Fit, we want you to know that you can turn your lifestyle into something sustainable. You can be hungry (eat the food that you want) and fit (feel good, look good, perform well) at the same time! No matter what stresses life throws at you, there is a way to cope with it so that you can maintain that healthy and happy lifestyle.

Hungry & Fit Purchased By Media Giant

It’s with heavy hearts and loaded pockets that we are announcing some major news. Last night, we finally closed a deal with a European Union Media Mogul in his acquisition of the Hungry & Fit blog. Now, in full transparency, the agreement did not include the Hungry & Fit LLC company that we created and registered both federally and through the state of Colorado. It simply included the domain name (for this website) and all of the contents/publications on the site.

My Mantra for This Year

Another year sits at our feet and dreams whirl about our heads. Everyone is asking themselves, what am I going to achieve this year? Whether it be health goals to relationship goals to career goals, people are setting their sights. That includes us here at Hungry and Fit as well. We usually throw up some fun fitness goals and see where our motivation and drive will take us. I, however, am taking a slightly diverted path than the normal one. Although I certainly do have fitness goals this year (we do have a wedding coming up), I wanted to find a mantra that I could follow to keep me inspired. This mantra has a slightly broader message than just focused on one goal. My theme, mantra, whatever you want to call it for this year is #chasingdreams. This hashtag is inspired by @kelogsloops on Instagram who is an artist chasing their dreams and uses the hashtag #brbchasingdreams.

Top Ten Manga of 2015

In 2014, we saw the end of Kenichi (12 years) and Claymore (13 years) with 2015 having a colossal ending with Naruto (15 years). With One Punch Man and Attack on Titan finally grabbing some attention in the United States after six years, the scene is certainly changing. With some very questionable anime adaptations of great manga, such as Toriko, I’ve become even more excited for my manga releases and less for most anime.

Dragon Ball Z is making a resurgence with some major motion picture releases, but nothing sets the scene like some good old-fashioned, black and white panels full of unique artwork and storylines. Here are the ten manga that I am currently enjoying the most, in no particular order. Of course, I realize Hunter x Hunter isn’t on my list. I’ve also neglected any one-shots released in 2015, or adaptations of series such as Star Wars, as well as spin-offs because Fairy Tail has too many to be counted right now.

LA Residents: Workout with Hungry into 2016!

Every year since 2013, the Westside Family YMCA (in the Sawtelle neighborhood of West Los Angeles) has had a three-month program to help individuals make it through the most challenging time of year for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The holidays present all kinds of travel issues such as staying at hotels, going out to eat a lot, huge meals with your family where saying no might be impolite, and just overall craziness. In this chaos, it’s hard to maintain balance, but we know that consistency is the key to success. Whether you’re trying to gain muscle mass, cut body fat, or just become stronger, you need to have a realistic and smart nutrition and exercise plan to accomplish these goals.
