Just what we need… another pre-workout, right? Pre-Instagram, there were only a handful of options for pre-workouts, but ever since social media fitness has blown up, there are countless brands that I don’t even know. Anyone can find the individual components for most pre-workouts online and then blend them together, so why bother paying a premium for someone else’s? Well, why don’t you try making your own and then give Blackwolf a shot, and let me know what you think.
It is true that the fitness industry has become saturated with new products, but that doesn’t mean the new ones are worse than the old ones. There are a few ways that we can decide whether we like a supplement or not, especially when it comes to powders. You have the two simplest tests. One, does it mix well in a liquid? Two, does it taste good? I can promise you, from decades of experience, that your homemade concoction will fail both of those tests. Also, it takes a lot more time than you think it will. When it comes to Blackwolf, after having myself and four of the best trainers at my gym give it a shot, it passes both of those tests with flying colors. Now, I only tried the Green Apple, but as you can see in my picture, I compared it against what I consider the best pre-workout in the game, from the number one supplement company in the world, and both the flavor and mix-ability are top tier.
Then, we can look at BPI Sports, one of the biggest players in the supplement game. They have shelf space everywhere, including Walmart. They teamed up with one of the biggest fitness influencers of all time, Mike O’Hearn, on one of their newest products, Pump Formula. While the flavor is pretty good, it is incredibly grainy and not fun to drink, but it isn’t just about tasting good. Pre-workouts are supposed to have physical benefits. The 6000 mg of citrulline malate, 3200 mg of beta alanine, and 3000 mg of creatine monohydrate are supposed to help simulate a more effective training session and set you up for enhanced recovery by making your body transport important nutrients more efficiently. You may or may not feel the actual effects of those ingredients, but most people will feel the energy enhancers, especially caffeine.
While I didn’t feel any tingling or instant effects from Blackwolf, the other trainers said it worked great. They felt more blood rushing through their veins. It was especially well received by the trainers who specialize in bodybuilding, but overall, it was very popular. While the impact on training is important, it is hard to measure and above all else, I’ve always felt that pre-workout supplements are most important from a sports psychology standpoint. Once you take a pre-workout, you feel like you have to put in a certain amount of work to either get your money’s worth or ” burn it off” so that certain components don’t settle in your system. We’re not going to get into depth about those ideas because it isn’t really that important, what’s important is that work is being done, progress is being made, fat is being burned, muscle is being built and people are becoming happier.
That is why flavor and texture matter so much. People are far more likely to develop and maintain good habits that are enjoyable. Why take BPI’s disgusting Pump Formula when you can have a much more enjoyable experience with Blackwolf? The only argument would be whether the ingredients are accurate and pure. I’m always going to recommend Optimum Nutrition above everyone else because I’ve been in their labs and factories. I know they operate at the highest standards. Still, from everything I’ve seen, Blackwolf is a great product. I’d love to check out their facilities one day, but until then, I’ll keep using their products.
Stay hungry and fit!
(and sorry for the bad photos and stock featured photo… I dropped my phone in the gym and the camera broke. I didn’t want to wait any longer to get this out!)
