International Day of the Girl was October 11, 2019. But we’re here to say that every day should be day of the girl! Let’s make the next DECADE of the girl. We’re so inspired by the achievements of women and girls across the world.
Just recently, Time Magazine named the entire United States Women’s National Soccer Team as their “Athlete of the Year.” They couldn’t just pick one of them, so they named the entire team. This team just recently won the Women’s World Cup, but it was so much more than that. They used their win as a platform to demand more money for women’s sports. They could’ve rested with their medals and trophies, but they championed for women’s rights instead.
I hope girls watch them win and watch them be even more than just athletes (role models). I hope they get inspired to lace up their soccer cleats each and every day to practice and get better. Not just to get better at their sport, but find confidence within themselves, as well. Sports build confidence in the girls who play them and that confidence can do so much for a girl. It can lead them away from bad decisions, from letting people treat them poorly, and toward a path that they want.
Confidence can lead girls to stay on a true path to their dream instead of getting blown off of it. So let’s root for girls not just one day out of the year, but every day for every year to come. Let’s root for them and support them so they can be the best they can be. Because when they win, society in general wins. Who doesn’t want a generation of kick-butt girls?
