The blogging community is a wonderful, supportive community. We started six years ago (wow!) and boy has it changed since. Back then, there weren’t many “social media influencers” and Instagram was barely a thing. It was much easier for bloggers because the market wasn’t flooded with them. People blog as a full-time gig now and they have to work hard to stay on top of things like SEO, market changes, and outreach. But still, it’s mostly a great community where bloggers support one another. For better or for worse, Hungry & Fit is still around to throw food and workouts at you. We wanted to take a moment and share with you blogs that inspired us to blog and also ones we have recently followed. Some are food blogs, some are health blogs, some are somewhere in between like us.
Carrots ‘N’ Cake. Fit started following this blog way back in the day when she was still in college, thanks to her friend Mary Kate who turned her onto it. Tina, behind Carrots N Cake, first started the blog to help her get ready for her wedding. It blew up and she’s been blogging ever since. Follow her blog if you’re interested in healthy + quick recipes, workouts, and generally how to live a happy, healthy, moderated life.
Fit Foodie Finds. Fit started following this one a little later in life, but Lee Hersh, founder of Fit Foodie Finds, packs this blog with goodness. I have cooked many of her recipes and have been inspired by even more. She combines healthy recipes with doable workouts and adds a dash of lifestyle too. With FFF, I mostly focus on her recipes which are oh-so-good. Still so excited to make her Chicken Tikka Masala Casserole!
Smitten Kitchen. If you can’t tell by the name, Smitten Kitchen is solely a food blog and boy does Deb do it well. This site is full of recipes and they just feel so wholesome. Like you want to wrap yourself up in every recipe and eat every last bite. She shares beautiful pictures and wonderful stories. I’ve been dying to make her Chilaquiles Brunch Casserole.
Minimalist Baker. This blog drew Fit in because of the “Minimalist” part of the blog. She is a self-declared lazy cook and baker and detests long and complicated recipes with ridiculous amounts of ingredients. Minimalist Baker has a few conditions for all of her recipes: they must be plant-based, 10 ingredients or less, and 30 minutes or less. Now that’s what I’m talking about! Who has time to get a million random ingredients you’ll probably only use once! Not me! Minimalist Baker is the food blogger you need!
Hip Foodie Mom. When I starting out blogging, I remember Alice Choi at Hip Foodie Mom being a very positive, inspirational force in the blogging world. She was up and coming, on her path to blog-stardom and she deserved it. We had a few email exchanges, me asking for advice, and she was so wonderful to talk to. She is absolutely killing it now, dishing out family recipes that don’t intimidate. She caters to all: meat eaters, vegetarians, gluten-freers, etc and it’s all with the drive to make cooking fun and great for the family.
So yeah, mostly food blogs with a sprinkle of healthy living and workouts in the mix. I guess we follow more food blogs because we are Certified Personal Trainers, so we don’t need as much inspiration for workouts. Still, it’s fun to get a mix of both. I encourage you to sample these ladies’ blogs and take as much as you can from them. They have thoughtful, wonderful content that you can surely benefit from. And…all of them are packed with delicious recipes. Following many blogs ensures variety and inspiration across the board. Follow these blogs to stay hungry and fit!
I hope Nymeria is making a list too
