How to Keep Up Your Workout Routine When Traveling (MOTIVATION!)

This doesn’t include one of our notorious hotel workouts. This doesn’t have a ton of exercises and numbers. You won’t find any programming here: No sets, reps, rest, etc. This is strictly motivational and completely intended to help you remember that you can make up as many excuses as you want, but you can also take them away. It is all on you.

We recently headed to Mexico City for a friend’s wedding, and what a nice wedding it was! Since we’ve never really spent time in CDMX (Mexico City’s acronym) and seeing that it is one of the largest cities in the world, we figured… there must be a ton of amazing training facilities here! We thought that we’d end up going to a different one every day to do our workout at.

You’d think after all the traveling we’ve done that we’d know better than that! Oh well, as it turns out, we didn’t go to any gyms outside of our hotel. Fortunately, the very reasonably priced Holiday Inn that we stayed at had a gym in it… and it was really nice! As you can see from the pictures, they had everything from cycling bikes to kettlebells.

The bottom line is, roll with the punches. By that I mean, don’t get discouraged when your lofty plans don’t come to fruition. I could’ve easily said, oh well, looks like we won’t be able to make it to any fancy gyms, so let’s just eat a ton of tacos and drink a bunch of tequila and call it a day. NOPE! We were really good about our workouts. Whether it is push-ups and planks in the hotel room, interval training in the hotel’s stairwell, a run around the local streets or a trip to the best gyms in the city… JUST DO SOMETHING

Unless you’re in the top one percent of competitors in any given professional sporting association, you can tweak your training program a bit for a few days. What you will discover after training every single day for decades is that doing something is what counts. Consistency, in that respect, is key. Get your workout in somewhere.

So for everyone out there that always uses travel as an excuse as to why they aren’t seeing results, stop making excuses and start putting some more effort in, because that’s really all we’re asking for! Results will come, but only if you’re sincerely doing your part. We’re not telling you do cardio with a torn calf, but we’re telling you to do the best you can at any given time… and stop making excuses to stay hungry and fit!
