Cheat Meal Recipe: Loaded Baked Potato

Hey team Hungry & Fit, are you hungry?  This is actually what we put together for last year’s Super Bowl, if my memory serves me right, and we’re just now releasing it because well… it just feels like the right time. We’ve moved into winter and everyone’s a little more relaxed with their diets as they don’t have to worry about their beach body right now. While this doesn’t necessarily need to be an “unhealthy” or “cheat” meal, you’re more than welcome to have some fun with it and look at it as a “treat meal” instead.

Why This is Personal

This hurts. This is gutting, like the wind has been knocked out of us. When you have to wake up in the morning in a fog, trying to remember what horrible thing had happened and then you feel the weight slowly pressing on your chest. This feels personal. But, why does this feel so personal? Why are we experiencing mourning? Why did I ugly cry? I’ve lost elections before (Bush, anyone?), but not like this. This is not just my liberal butt being whooped, it’s what this represents. Life is not just literal, it is also symbolic. When someone demeans and insults you and then is elected, it’s personal. To the people who are scorning the liberals being upset, I think you’re missing the point. I don’t necessarily agree with protesting that Trump got elected because it’s unproductive, but I would be the first on the streets to protest if he starts doing what he said he would. People are personally upset and here’s why:

After drinking too much and crying my way through Tuesday night, I opened my computer (with which I was watching the election) to find a tissue plastered to the screen in some sad comedy.

Pizza Press Restaurant Review

Another contender enters the ring, but this isn’t Super Smash Bros although you might think a Mario and Luigi have something to do with this. Good one, right? Looking back through the blog, we’ve talked about pizza… a lot. Can you blame us? We’ve highlighted our favorite pizza ever, our favorite pizza in LA, simple homemade pizza, a healthy homemade recipe, and much more. We even wrote a blog post about pizza on our other blog. More recently, we realized that there’s a growing market here in LA that is heavily influenced by the success of Subway, Chipotle, and other “build your own” food stops. At the time, we tried Pieology and Pizza Rev, and we wrote about our comparative review HERE.

Top 5 Movies of 2016 – A Year Full of Gold

As we get excited for our favorite part of the year (November and December) and look forward to upcoming movies and video games, we want to reflect on what we’ve been fortunate enough to be exposed to so far this year. While there are certainly major challenges to living in LA, such as the traffic and rent prices, there are amazing benefits such as the exposure to cultural events and amazing cuisine. As a result, we have the ability to go to the movies and watch extremely limited releases.

While you’ve seen a handful of movie reviews from us in the past, we missed some opportunities to review some of these films that you probably haven’t heard of, which is a shame! For that reason, we’re going to countdown our Top 5 movies that you probably haven’t seen this year. They’re all either on DVD or will be released so add them to your holiday wishlist or treat yourself to something special. You won’t regret it.

No-Bake Pumpkin Protein Balls

We haven’t made recipes in way too long here at Hungry & Fit. We pledge to post more recipes and more fitness advice! Getting back to our roots. Lately, we’ve committed ourselves to stick to a budget. We used to spend WAY too much money on food (think above $500 each) per month so we made a goal of eating in most of the time. We’ve made true of that commitment so far, eating in for almost every meal! We’ve gotten to cook more and fatten up our wallets. We also feel better since we know what we’re putting down our throats. Yay for budgets and eating well!

I’ve been wanting to get back into the kitchen for a while. I saw Carrots ‘n’ Cake’s recipe and decided to do my own spin on it. It’s no-bake pumpkin protein balls–an incredibly simple recipe with very few ingredients. This recipe also has that canvas for being creative. Try putting different wet and dry ingredients in! I went with pumpkin since…’tis the season after all!

The Update You’ve Been Waiting For

Hey team Hungry & Fit, we have some exciting announcements for you, and obviously for us! Hopefully, this will give you an idea of what to expect moving forward. You might have noticed that there was a month or two where we weren’t posting much content and that is because we have moved from one part of LA to another part of LA… again. That only marks the fourth time in three years and the seventh time in six years. It seems we just can’t stay still. Now that we’re mostly settled in our new place, you should expect (and demand) more from us!

This really is an exciting time of year. It starts to get cooler, we fall back with the time change and the sun sets earlier, and some of the most enjoyable holidays are right around the corner. Thanksgiving and Christmas plans are being made and lists are carefully crafted. Amazing movies and video games are released nearly every week for the rest of the year so there are plenty of reasons to be in high spirits. If you want to find out a bit more about those releases, look here.

Performance Shoulders Workout

Whether our injuries are actually located somewhere inside our shoulder or hip girdles, many injuries are caused by a lack of stability and mobility in those two areas. They’re two extremely complex joints that are surrounded by many different muscles, as opposed to our biceps or triceps that are far less challenging to isolate and deal with as a regular person working out at the gym. Fortunately, we don’t have to change anything in terms of “how to train” other than be aware of the various muscles that should be targeted.

This workout combines basic movements that activate all the major muscles in the shoulder girdle and eventually leads up to some lifts that are closer to what you’d see in competition. It’s not necessarily a workout for a beginner and that’s why we aren’t offering full explanations and pictures of the exercises. If you’re unsure what these (basic) exercises and muscles are, you should probably take a step back and start with the machines in the gym, rather than free weights.

The Answer to the Question of Life

The moment that you’ve all been waiting for, or at least it would make sense for us to think that, since we are asked all the time… “what product do you recommend for (fill in the blank)?” and proceed. In person, via text/email, on social media, through the blog… we are constantly being asked for our recommendation on products from video games and books, to dog food and people food, to jump ropes and weightlifting shoes. The list goes on and on and on so we thought that instead of answering the same questions over and over again, let’s create a page that we can send you to with all the information clearly laid out, which brings us to right now!

If you check out the blog, you’ll notice that there is a new tab on the top menu titled “Products” and, while it’s a work in progress, we want to work with you to build it because our memories aren’t always the sharpest. If you click on the tab, you’ll see a long list of hyperlinked product descriptions loosely organized in categories such as Protein, Pets, Food, and Vitamins & Minerals. We made the list that you can look at now based on products that we remembered you have all asked about in the past, so if you can think of anything else please let us know.

Fit Cosplays (For the First Time) as Rey!

I’ve known what my Halloween costume was going to be for almost a year. As soon as I saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens, I knew I wanted to be Rey. She was such a cool figure in the Star Wars universe, a different female role than in any previous Star Wars film–she inspired me! Beside that, I had a lot of people tell me that they were really reminded of me when they saw Rey in the new Star Wars. I knew I had to do it!

When does a costume become a cosplay? Perhaps when you create a costume based on a “real” character and put real effort into simulating that character. Then you really play that character (see what I did there). I’m not quite sure. But I do know for a fact that I have never put this much effort into a costume before! I’ve never really wanted to be a certain character very badly, but I was so drawn to Rey!
