Living in Hollywood (A Fun Recap of Our Adventures)

For the first time, in a very long time, Hungry & Fit will live somewhere for more than a year. After heading to college in 2007, Hungry hadn’t stayed in a single place for more than a year. Sometimes those moves would just be from one room to another in the same building, but once Hungry & Fit teamed up, we’ve had some much more distinct moves. After leaving New York in May of 2012, with a car packed with nearly everything we owned, we settled in Boulder, Colorado. This is when our string of moving into new apartments after one-year leases began.

A Picnic and a Hike

Every month, Hungry and I have goals. Twenty-five to be exact. They are split into five categories: Alana, Chris, Hungry & Fit, Home, Fun. Each have five goals within them. One of our fun goals this month was to do a picnic and hike at Will Rogers with Noke.

Setting Goals for the Month

Every month, we set five goals in five categories. We write them down on a sheet and it looks like a Bingo Board. We treat it that way too, setting ourselves up for next month’s goals and sometimes rewarding ourselves with a nice meal out if we hit BINGO! The five categories include Alana, Chris, Hungry & Fit, Home, and in 2017, we decided to add the fifth… Fun!

This month, for one of my personal goals, I set a goal that I know I most likely won’t be able to reach. It’s not a do this in one day sort of thing, so it’s more challenging. I wanted to, by the end of the month, run 4 miles in 32 minutes while still totaling 995 lbs in the big three lifts: deadlift, squat, and bench press. The lifts had to be competition grade, so basically… no cheating allowed. Unfortunately, a major bump came in the road when my ingrown toenails flared up and got really bad, to the point that they hurt just while laying in bed. Now, I know what you’re thinking… that’s a huge EXCUSE and it could be way worse. I’ve finished basketball games with fractured ankles, swam in collegiate meets with a leg immobilizer on, and much more.

Our 1000th Post!

On August 14th, 2012, we arrived in Boulder, Colorado with nothing but a 1998 Ford Taurus filled with everything we owned. We didn’t have jobs, a place to live, or money… but we had each other and decided that would be enough to make it. After loading up our credit cards and with student loans of over $50,000 we decided that the best place to go was the Boulder Public Library. Fortunately, we found jobs relatively fast, even though we both were hired as part-time hourly staff.

We finally found an apartment, but we couldn’t furnish it, so we pulled a futon from the dumpster and slept on that for months. Eventually, when we felt comfortable enough, we adopted Nymeria and Misty, and everything else is history! Over four and a half years later, you’ve followed our journey through 1000 posts on this blog! What started as a “personal blog” turned into a “food and fitness blog” that sat under Hungry & Fit LLC.
