The Best Holiday Movie of All Time

And here we are. It’s beautiful Christmas Eve and we arrive at the #1 of the Best Holiday Movies of All Time! The actual best holiday movie of all time. Can you feel the Christmas magic in the air? Can you hear Santa making his way? Have you been stuffing your face with delicious treats? Has holiday music been echoing in your household? Yep, I think you are ready for the ultimate, the best holiday movies of all time! This is for our Top 3 Holiday Movies countdown, so if you missed the first two, check #2 and #3 out here. We have such a special list today with heartfelt tributes and memories. We hope you enjoy.

Andrew  –  “The Polar Express”

My theme for my #1 is “for children.” It was a classic when I was in elementary school and we would come into school in pajamas and read the book/listen to the audio book in the hallway as a school. Years later, the Tom Hanks iconic adaption would come out and satisfy a new generation.

The Second Best Holiday Movie of All Time

Wow, Christmas is just eight days away! Again, sometimes the best way to get in the Christmas spirit is to watch your favorite holiday movie. Grab some hot cocoa and a big bowl of popcorn and snuggle with your favorites. Whether it’s a comedy, romance, drama, or other, it’s all a part of the season. This is a Top 3 Holiday Movie countdown for us. If you missed #3, find it here. Now onto the show! Here are some of our hand-chosen holiday movies for your viewing pleasure.

Andrew – “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”

My #2 theme is “for adults.” Clark and Eddie together again.

Non-Spoiler Review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Wow. What a night. I’ll (try to) keep this short and sweet. Have no fear–there will be no spoilers here. First of all, we are lucky enough to live in Hollywood and we were able to walk to the “strip” where the premiere was happening. We saw the movie at Disney’s El Capitan theatre–an intricate, marvelous set up. There were people everywhere, the streets were blocked off, there was a 20 foot AT-AT and other amazing props. The hype and energy were tangible. I dressed up as Rey for the premiere and I’m so glad I did–I got lots of comments on my costume and some people even wanted photos with me! Anyhow, there is nothing like seeing a Star Wars movie on opening night–the energy is fantastic, palpable, and contagious. You know everyone is a huge Star Wars fan and dressing up like Rey does not make you a nerd in this crowd.

Anyhow, let’s get to the good stuff. Here is my review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

The Third Best Holiday Movie of All Time

We are on our first of three movies on our Holiday Movie countdown! Are you getting your hygge on for the holidays? We sure are: hot cocoa, warm fairy lights, blankets on the couch, and so on. Yeah, Southern California may be getting a little confused on its seasons this year (80 degree high in December?! Come on! I want some cold weather), but there still can be a slight chill to the air and anyhow, the magic spirit of the holidays is coming alive. What better way to invite the holiday magic in than sitting down to watch your favorite holiday movies? You might recognize some of the contributors below from our previous movie braintrust. Here’s the #3 out of the Top 3 Best Holiday Movies of All Time!

Andrew (Hungry’s brother) – “Elf”

My top three will have different themes. My #3 is “Everyone of all ages.” When Elf came out, I was a big Will Ferrell fan but I did not like it. It later grew on me and has become a Christmas favorite of mine. I could watch it all year round.

Favorite Holiday Movie Countdown!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which means that it is the perfect time for a (very) short and sweet countdown! Christmas is the 25th, as usual, but this year it falls on the Monday. Since we love to release our countdowns on Sundays, that means we have three more Sundays to bring you a list of holiday movies that you need to see. We’re going to be using some of our favorite contributors for this list, so you can expect the normal, not-so-normal, variety. We’re sure that you’ll see old and new, animated and live action, Christmas and Hannukah, and maybe even some movies that are debatable when it comes to their attachment to the holiday season.

Thor: Ragnarok Review

On our drive up to Idyllwild, we were hoping that we’d run into a convenient situation where we’d be able to see the new Thor: Ragnarok in theaters, and we were fortunate! I did, however, waste a significant amount of time trying to explain what I thought would be the back story to this film. The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) is quickly growing and for anyone who doesn’t know the comics or watch the movies many times, you can get lost in the timeline. I had to remind Fit that Thor and Hulk were not in Civil War, so these two movies were most likely taking place at the same time and leading towards The Avengers: Infinity War, along with Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and who knows what else.

The Greatest Movies of All Time

A few weeks ago, we wrapped up our Top 10 Greatest Movies of All Time. We treated this exercise the same as our 25 Greatest Video Games Ever Countdown, which allowed everyone involved to determine their own guidelines for their list. If you’ve been following and reading the captions each week, you’ll notice that some lists spanned over the lifetime of a writer, while others were based just in their childhood. It is intriguing to say that least.

We decided once again to compile the lists and create our consensus Top 5 Movies of All Time. There were much fewer similarities this time around. The only movies repeated on two lists were Blade Runner, Beauty and the Beast, The Dark Knight, The Fifth Element, The Lion King and Life Aquatic. The only movie that made three lists was The Empire Strikes Back. Star Wars films had five mentions while Lord of the Rings filmed only had two. Other series were even less represented, which speaks volumes about the numbers of films that exist and the diversity in our writers.
