We Moved to New Orleans!

If you haven’t noticed through our social media, we moved to New Orleans! We are now home owners! It’s been a wild five months; we’ve experienced a hurricane, fostered a pregnant dog, painted a whole house, just to name a few.

Why leave Los Angeles? Well, we’d been ready to leave Los Angeles for quite some time. Although we had family there, we didn’t really fit into the lifestyle anymore. Los Angeles is incredibly expensive and it doesn’t fit well into the simple monthly budget template we set up. In all actuality, it doesn’t make much sense to live there unless you’re part of the entertainment industry. It’s a real grind and traffic is a pill. We wanted to slow down a bit, collect some more savings before we made the big trip across the pond to New Zealand.

Spring Cleaning (Marie Kondo)

Every season (even though we don’t really have seasons here in Los Angeles), we clean! I think mostly everyone has heard of spring cleaning, where the stereotypical American family empties out their garage, attic, basement and closets onto the driveway and gets rid of everything they don’t need via garage sale. The weather is nice, so it makes sense. I feel like we did something like that growing up. Now, we do this with the turn of every season, as we’ve gotten rid of more stuff/junk/crap over the years.

The 1,000,000th Reader

August 14th, 2012. The first blog post ever published on Hungry & Fit back when it was a wordpress.com site. Now, or rather for quite some time we’ve been wordpress.org; it was a requirement when we started to monetize the blog. As some of you may know, we thought of the blog on our cross-country trip from New York to Boulder, Colorado. We stopped in Mason City, Iowa for a week or so along the way. At the time, it was just the two of us, but the pack, or pride, has grown since then. Hungry & Fit has also grown.

Living in Hollywood (A Fun Recap of Our Adventures)

For the first time, in a very long time, Hungry & Fit will live somewhere for more than a year. After heading to college in 2007, Hungry hadn’t stayed in a single place for more than a year. Sometimes those moves would just be from one room to another in the same building, but once Hungry & Fit teamed up, we’ve had some much more distinct moves. After leaving New York in May of 2012, with a car packed with nearly everything we owned, we settled in Boulder, Colorado. This is when our string of moving into new apartments after one-year leases began.

A Picnic and a Hike

Every month, Hungry and I have goals. Twenty-five to be exact. They are split into five categories: Alana, Chris, Hungry & Fit, Home, Fun. Each have five goals within them. One of our fun goals this month was to do a picnic and hike at Will Rogers with Noke.

Investing in Your Health (featuring Ortho Mattress)

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed the other day when I saw Jesse Itzler (entrepreneur and author of one of my favorite books, Living With a Seal) encourage his followers to look at their spending habits differently. A lot of people see the amount that they spend on the gym, supplements, organic produce, free-range meat and quickly reconsider their positive lifestyle changes. They tell themselves that all these things don’t matter as they make up excuses to justify their lack of progress. Whether it is bad genetics, an old injury or they can’t afford it, people are constantly creating barriers for themselves. Still, like in business, you need to invest to see some serious returns!

Should You Shop at Costco?

You’ve probably heard something like this plenty of times: losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. While those numbers are just estimates, they’re not far from reality. The truth is, most goals related to health and wellness have a lot to do with what you put in your body. The number of calories you consume will have the biggest impact on whether you lose, maintain or gain weight. The types of calories you consume (not good vs. bad BUT proteins/fats/carbs) will also have a significant influence on how your body transforms, especially when paired with a physical training program.

Thank You!

The SEO for this post isn’t going to be very strong, and while it might not get the most search result views, it contains a message that is extremely important to us at the Hungry & Fit blog… thank you!

All of Our Other Projects!

Obviously, we don’t make enough from this blog to live our amazing life in Hollywood, California, with our four pets and appetite for delicious food. We’ve always had real jobs too, but we won’t bore you with our work history because you can find (most of) it on our LinkedIn profiles. We do, however, love to keep ourselves busy and while some of us (Alana/Fit) have done a great job becoming more focused on certain projects, some of us (Chris/Hungry) are still bouncing all over the walls every day and night trying to figure out what he really wants to do with his life. Before we get to different projects, we’d like to remind you that we’re “rebranding” our social media so that Hungry & Fit content is separate from our personal accounts. This has happened/is happening to our YouTube and Instagram so far, but we’re planning on doing the same for Twitter and even Email.

Moving back to those other projects, since you’ve always been a part of this little family! First, we’ll start with the most exciting one… Alana’s baby.

Just One More Word – Alana is a writer, as you all know, but she doesn’t only write delicious recipes and amazing workouts. She’s written poetry (that has been published) and has been working on a fantasy series for years. Recently, after taking part of some rigorous writing challenges, she decided to start tracking her thoughts on this new blog. She only just created it a few weeks ago, but it’ll be a great resource for aspiring writers and everyone who wants to track her progress on her novel!
