Meal Kits Are Flourishing Again and You Heard It Here First

The pandemic has ushered in a lot of changes in a very short time. For many of us, social distancing, wearing face masks, and limiting exposure to groups of other people remain the norm. Many businesses are still mandating that employees work from home, and numerous schools are still using a distance-learning model.

Another change that’s happened, this one more positive than most, is that meal kits are flourishing once more. You heard about them first here on Hungry and Fit, and they’ve surged in popularity. That makes sense given the risks involved with simply going to the grocery store these days.

Where does the meal kit industry stand currently and what should you know? We’ll discuss all that below.

Blueberry Overnight Oats

I’m (Fit, here) back again! Two posts in a row. Crazy, right? I know I’ve been off the blog for a while, but I thought I’d pop in a bit more to share some recipes. And today’s recipe is…Blueberry Overnight Oats! Overnight oats may seem like a trendy breakfast you’ll only find in Los Angeles, but there’s more to it than just the fad. Overnight oats is (are?) a timesaver. It’s a nice colder alternative to traditional oatmeal, especially nice in the warmer months. And you can get really creative with the ingredients you put inside.

We nicked this recipe from the lovely Fit Foodie Finds and made it our own. If you haven’t checked her out, head on over–lots of great recipes to find there. This overnight oats recipe is all about the blueberries! Though, again, overnight oats can be whatever you want to put in, as long as you have a liquid. It’s so incredibly easy to throw these ingredients together and enjoy them the next day in a nice chilled bowl!

Korean Pickled Onion

If you’ve hung out with us long enough, you know we love Korean food. Hungry spent a summer semester in South Korea during college, where he fell in love with the people, culture, and food. Growing up in Los Angeles, Fit had plenty of access to Korean food, lucky for her.

A special part of Korean food is banchan. Banchan is a name for side dishes. There are many varieties of these banchan, including kimchi (probably the most well-known in the States), namul (vegetables stir-fried, steamed or marinated), and pickled onion. We are going to show you how to make pickled onion, Korean style. We are by no means experts on this, but we tried a recipe from futuredish, a Korean food blogger, and loved it! It’s a mixture of sharpness from the onion, sweetness from the sugar, and a nice umami from the soy sauce. Beautifully well rounded.

Why You Shouldn’t Use Postmates

If you’re subscribed to our YouTube channel, you might have watched today’s video. What was the topic? Uber acquired Postmates for a lot of money. I go on to talk about how we’re not really fans of meal delivery apps because they’re almost all problematic. Then, while I’m combing through old drafts on our blog, I found this gem. I didn’t change the title. I’m not going to mess with the photos that I uploaded over a year ago. This was first drafted on May 8th 2019. We haven’t used Postmates since.

Our Annual Domino’s Pizza Tradition

I actually had to Google Domino’s Pizza because I thought it was spelled with an e. When I was doing my tiny bit of research for this quick blog, I was shocked. I had no idea that Domino’s stock was nearly $400 a share. I considered purchasing some when it was $30 a share and I almost wish I did. We’re not here to discuss finances, although money definitely has a role to play in Domino’s success. Let’s talk about our annual tradition of getting Domino’s.

Tomorrow on YouTube: Millennial Food Quiz

Recently, a Facebook friend shared the featured image on this post, which is a millennial food quiz. This friend lives in the New Orleans area and most of the people who commented on the post had relatively low scores, which I mention in tomorrow’s video. I can only imagine what the results for someone in Los Angeles or San Francisco would look like. My score wouldn’t have been nearly as high if we didn’t live in Hollywood for three years

In tomorrow’s video, I go over the list one item at a time. I’ll also reveal if I know what it is, if I’ve eaten it, and where I’ve eaten it… if I remember. I know, this would’ve been a much better video if Alana and I recorded it together… maybe we’ll do a part two!
