Hungry & Fit’s Go-To Healthy Snacks

Here at Hungry & Fit we eat…a lot. We have different styles, but there is always a lot of food involved. Hungry is more of the wolf-type; he will eat an inane amount of food and then be good for a while. Fit is more deer-like, grazing across the day. She eats small snacks and meals…every hour or so. So yes, a lot of food is consumed in the Hungry & Fit household. That means we have to be stacked when it comes to food options. Fit will usually gravitate toward smaller meals or snacks. It’s very important for us to have healthy snack options available at all times so we don’t go down a bad road. So what do “healthy” snacks mean? Well, typically for us active individuals, it’s something high in protein and low in sugar. Sure, there are some variants to this, but that’s the general rule for us. So what are some healthy snack options we eat, you ask? Let us tell you so that you can add them to your daily routine too!

  • Two hard-boiled eggs with salt (side note from Fit: oh my god, when it’s fresh and hot from the pot with a pinch of salt…can’t top it!)
  • Plain greek yogurt with fruit and/or granola
  • Apple with peanut butter
  • Peanut butter on toast with a little honey and cinnamon
  • Spoonful of peanut butter (there’s a lot of peanut butter happening…)
  • Protein bars
  • Protein shakes
  • Dried beans

To name a few…and I’m still missing plenty! However, we recently got to try some new healthy snacks and we fell hard for them. When things taste good AND they’re good for you, we are just SUCKERS. Optimum Nutrition (one of our favorite gold-standard supplement companies) recently sent us a bounty of deliciousness. We got various-flavored protein chocolate-covered almonds along with some cake bites. Fit could not stop eating the almonds. It’s this perfect combination of thinking you’re eating something sweet and delectable but really it’s just different Optimum Nutrition protein blends covering the almonds. It’s become her go-to snack and she’s desperately afraid of running out. The cake bites have great mouth-feel and flavor, but they are more Hungry’s style.
