Non-Spoiler Review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Wow. What a night. I’ll (try to) keep this short and sweet. Have no fear–there will be no spoilers here. First of all, we are lucky enough to live in Hollywood and we were able to walk to the “strip” where the premiere was happening. We saw the movie at Disney’s El Capitan theatre–an intricate, marvelous set up. There were people everywhere, the streets were blocked off, there was a 20 foot AT-AT and other amazing props. The hype and energy were tangible. I dressed up as Rey for the premiere and I’m so glad I did–I got lots of comments on my costume and some people even wanted photos with me! Anyhow, there is nothing like seeing a Star Wars movie on opening night–the energy is fantastic, palpable, and contagious. You know everyone is a huge Star Wars fan and dressing up like Rey does not make you a nerd in this crowd.

Anyhow, let’s get to the good stuff. Here is my review of Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Ken’s House of Pancakes Sumo Challenge

We’re quick to admit that food challenges are a little wrong. They’re gluttonous and certainly don’t help with a fair distribution of food, but there’s something about them that draws you in. While most people would be far more likely to observe someone taking part of the challenge, Hungry loves to step up to the plate when he gets the chance. On our recent trip to Hawaii, a friend from the island who now lives in LA, told us that we had to go to Ken’s House of Pancakes. Why? Well, apparently, the Rock spent a fair amount of time in Hilo during his youth, and he would often destroy some epic pancake platter while there.

How to Get Big Calves!

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses; Hungry is often told that he has really nice calves. Whether it was cheerleaders on the sidelines during his high school basketball games or bros in the gym in Los Angeles, a lot of people have a tendency to stare at Hungry’s calves. Calves are often seen as one of the hardest muscle groups to successfully train, and as a result, a lot of people end up asking, what do you do for your calves?

Easy Peasy Banana Bread

Who doesn’t have old bananas in their pantry? I know we do at least once a month. We do not throw them out. Instead, we make banana bread! Banana bread is such a delicious thing that is not too unhealthy, but also easy as heck to whip up. It’s a great snack or treat any time of the year, but especially during the winter, there’s just something about that smell of it baking in the house.

This recipe is incredibly easy: just put everything together, whisk, and bake! I based this recipe off of Carrots ‘N’ Cake’s recipe–you should check her out, she’s a very fun healthy lifestyle blogger. Our favorite way to enjoy banana bread is taking a slice and toasting it in the toaster oven and then slathering butter on it. Mmm-mm! Let’s have fun making this banana bread!

The Third Best Holiday Movie of All Time

We are on our first of three movies on our Holiday Movie countdown! Are you getting your hygge on for the holidays? We sure are: hot cocoa, warm fairy lights, blankets on the couch, and so on. Yeah, Southern California may be getting a little confused on its seasons this year (80 degree high in December?! Come on! I want some cold weather), but there still can be a slight chill to the air and anyhow, the magic spirit of the holidays is coming alive. What better way to invite the holiday magic in than sitting down to watch your favorite holiday movies? You might recognize some of the contributors below from our previous movie braintrust. Here’s the #3 out of the Top 3 Best Holiday Movies of All Time!

Andrew (Hungry’s brother) – “Elf”

My top three will have different themes. My #3 is “Everyone of all ages.” When Elf came out, I was a big Will Ferrell fan but I did not like it. It later grew on me and has become a Christmas favorite of mine. I could watch it all year round.

The Best Pizza on Earth is No More

As Hungry prepares for yet another trip back east, the preparation comes with the painful awareness that one of his favorite places in the whole world of food will not be there. Tony’s Pizza, née Tony’s Italian Kitchen, was a local favorite in Midland Park (Hungry’s hometown). In such a densely populated part of Northern New Jersey, the level of pizza competition easily rivaled that of any part of New York City, some would even daresay Arthur Ave. While residents of Bergen County would be split between Kinchley’s thin crust, Nelly’s wide selection, and Brother’s stellar toppings, Hungry knew at an early age that Tony’s was his favorite, by far.

2017 Holiday Gift Guide!

Whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanza, Chanukah, or just so happen to have a birthday (or anniversary) that falls in December, there’s a pretty good chance that you’re either going to be giving or receiving some gifts. For many, this whole process makes this month one of their favorites, but for some others, it brings nothing but stress. Lucky for you, we love everything about the holiday season so we present the Hungry & Fit 2017 Holiday Gift Guide!

For the sake of convenience, everything here will be available on Amazon, since they ship everywhere at reasonable rates and can generally give you accurate shipping details. Also, above everything else, we’ve found that their return policy is extremely easy going. Also, we’re going to provide low and high end (not-so and pretty expensive) options, as well as items for gym rats and nerds. This should have a little something for everyone, we hope.

Join US for a Tough Mudder in LA!

You’re going to find out how tough a Tough Mudder is. Well, if you’re in LA on March 4th, you can. Not only can you find out how hard a Tough Mudder really is, you can have support from both Hungry & Fit during the race. We both just signed up the Half Mudder (~5 miles) on the 4th of March, 2017, in the Los Angeles area. (It isn’t in Downtown LA!) Now, we want you to sign up, train with us and even race with us.

Back in 2009, Warrior Dash (basically) started the Mud Run movement in the United States. At that time, terms such as Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) and what not weren’t being thrown around since not many people knew about it. Hungry jumped into his first Warrior Dash in 2010 and the rest is history. Since then, not only have Hungry & Fit competed in everything from the Men’s Health Urbanathlon to the Bubble Run, we’ve also helped others tackle these challenges.

The Perfect Gift for Men

This week, we’re going to release our 2017 Guide to Holiday Shipping, filled with tons of ideas, most of which are available through Amazon. Before we get there, we want to take advantage of some amazing deals that one of Hungry’s favorite brands is offering right now. This might just be the perfect gift for men this holiday season. Why? Let us tell you!

Oliver’s Apparel is a higher-end men’s clothing company based in LA that makes all of their product in LA, which we love. They don’t have a ton of designs or crazy patterns, but everything is high-quality, durable, comfortable and multi-purpose. Hungry told you more about their other products HERE, but no matter what you decide to buy, you should do it now!
