I Didn’t Hit Snooze for a Week and Here’s What Happened

I found myself hitting the snooze button more and more often. Maybe it was a hard workout the night before, stress, or just not hitting the hay early enough. Usually, I wake up pretty early and get stuff done in the morning whether that’s a workout or whatever. But for a time, I just kept snoozing and snoozing until it was last alarm time, gotta-get-up-or-you’ll-be-late type of deal.

So, I made a vow to myself for a week that I would NOT press the snooze button for a week and see how it felt. See what more I could or couldn’t get done and so on and so forth. So, each morning even if I really really wanted to hit that snooze button and get a few more minutes of sleep, I got my butt up outta bed. Even if Hungry stayed in bed and Noke was slow to wake up, we got up (yep, if I’m up, Noke’s up–she’s my precious little shadow).

About what you would expect happened….

The Good

-I got more done. I woke up earlier, and thus I had more time, as logic would tell. Whether that was doing a workout in the morning, reading, writing, meditation, whatever! I got more of it done.

-I felt healthier. Getting up early allowed me more time to stretch or to do sun salutations. It gave me more time in my day which ensured a workout.

-I felt like I was seizing the day. I wasn’t lazing around, getting half-sleep for 30 more minutes in the morning. I was jumping out of bed, doing things I wanted to do. I felt like I was taking advantage of the day. Like I was the day’s boss, and not being shoved around.

Someone's not seizing the day...

Someone’s not seizing the day…

The Bad

-I felt tired. Sometimes, I felt tired on a day. Maybe I did need those extra 30 minutes that day. I can’t blame it completely on waking up earlier, but it may have played a part.

-Less cuddles! And everyone knows cuddling is the key to happiness.

So, all in all, looks like not hitting the snooze button is a good thing. I felt healthier, happier, and more in charge of the day. I felt empowered. However, I am a strong believer in moderation and that touches this too. Sometimes, it’s okay to hit the snooze button and get a few more Zs or cuddles (whether that’s a body pillow or a real person). Get up early most of the time, but sleep in sometimes! Don’t hit that snooze button to stay hungry and fit!

*Question of the Day: Do you hit the snooze button? If not, what do you do with the extra minutes of your day?

I never would have guessed that you would hit the snooze button, you always get so much done! That being said, I really need this motivation right now, I am on a quest to become a morning person. Thanks Alana

If I don’t wake up naturally (which I often do because I go to bed so early!) i snooze for 5 minutes and then I get up. That’s my routine!
