Execute, Don’t Just Dream!

This was an article that I started drafting back on August 25, 2015, at 11:30 am after reading the article that I mention below. Unfortunately, I never completed it. Fortunately, as I was looking at the draft I realized that this might be the best time to publish it. Since this is the beginning of the year and we’re all so busy focusing on what we did and didn’t do in 2015 and what we will do in 2016, I want to encourage you to pursue your dream… or any other ridiculous ideas that might actually work.

First, this actually has nothing to do with Ronnie Fieg or anything in this article. I haven’t been to his eatery, probably won’t ever make it there, and have no relationship to this man whatsoever. Yet, here I am, once again, kicking myself for not acting on a what if I did this. In 2008, I came out with a very similar idea. I still think mine is a much better idea but we can just say it was different. Now, in all fairness, I’m not going to tell you about it because it’s different enough that I could still open the place and be tremendously successful if the location was right.

People are successful with all kinds of ventures. Years and years ago, I read an article about two guys that sewed another guy’s neoprene wine bottle holder and patented it as a dual wine bottle holder. They ended up making eight figures on that little stitching project. I was so close to adding a third one on and patenting that, but I thought that they probably already tried it so I didn’t bother. I don’t even think any crowd raising pages existed at the time, but these guys invested what they had to produce enough to turn it into a profitable venture. It was a risk.

Musicians sample other musicians, television shows are adaptations of stories in books, and anything with a zombie in it or mutant sharks is eaten alive by the masses. This is the perfect time for young entrepreneurs to thrive,  taking advantage of the recovering economy and our capitalistic society. Why can’t you be successful, especially if you have an original idea or think of something that will actually help people live a healthier, less stressful life? You can, you just have to invest everything you have, and a lot of what you don’t have in it.

So, here’s my sticking point… execute. It’s not enough to just dream about what you want to accomplish. I know that you might not have enough time to get a full night’s sleep and work on your project. Guess what? Sleep has to wait. Your workouts have to wait. Your meals might even have to wait. If you really want it, you’ll work nonstop to get it. Rome wasn’t built in a day and your dream can’t be accomplished in a day either.  Because going for it, despite all odds, is what makes us hungry and fit.
