Tough Mudder with the Panda Nation

In October of 2016, I will be competing in a Tough Mudder with the World Wild Fund for Nature’s Panda Nation. I have set a goal to raise a significant amount of money by that event and in the interest of getting right to the point, please read my story below and visit my page. Any gifts would be greatly appreciated, but don’t worry, you’ll be hearing plenty more about this in the next ten months because setting ridiculous goals can help you be accountable on the path of getting hungry & fit!

Obstacle races including Warrior Dash, Tough Mudder, and the Spartan series along with Crossfit and the UFC have exploded in the past ten years, becoming very large markets in the process. Along with football, other sports, and even the Olympics, there’s been a move away from recognizing the abilities of amazing individuals and teams. Now, it’s all about the entertainment value, trash talking, and how much the media can make someone look bad. The world of athletics is turning into professional wrestling.

Animals have been subjected to human use of them for our own entertainment for as long as anyone can probably remember, but it’s especially worse now. With our technological advances, species that live on the bottom of the ocean can’t even feel safe and secure. While this might not be changing, we can continue to raise funds to support the protection of these animals by keeping them away from organizations like Sea World and circuses, and into sanctuaries or rehabilitation centers.

Essentially, I’m entering myself into the arena in order to keep them out. It’s an intentional role reversal and I’m hoping that your support for animals will help you contribute to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) through this page. Even if you like zoos, if there aren’t any more rhinos in the world, you will never be able to share that moment looking at one with your children one day. It was such a challenge to find a kiwi when we visited New Zealand, but it was an amazing experience because these animals are unique. Extinction is inexcusable because we hold the power now to allow these animals to survive so we should do what’s right.

Finally, I haven’t had the incentive to get in shape for years and I’m hoping you will give me that drive. When I was at the top of my game in February 2011, I suffered a poorly-timed injury that cost me my professional athletic career and I haven’t trained seriously ever since. I’m hoping this new approach of making it bigger than myself might just make the difference. I hate to put it this way, but the more I see people contribute, the better shape I will get in and I promise you a show. As always, stay hungry and fit!
