Change.org Animal Cruelty Petition

First, read this.

We don’t do this often; in fact, I don’t think we have ever done this on the blog. For the past few years, we have both been subscribed to a service that allows individuals to petition just about anything online. By garnering signatures, their hope is that they can change something, using those signatures as leverage against the party they are opposing. While neither of us has ever created a petition, nor do we know anyone personally who has used the service, there have been occasions where we have signed other petitions.

In all honesty, it’s hard to know who is right, who is wrong, who is telling the truth, and who is lying. It’s based on different opinions and views of any situation. Still, it’s a relatively civilized way of trying to figure out a solution to a problem. You get the idea and you can decide for yourself what petitions you do or don’t want to sign. I, however, for some reason have decided to share this petition and ask you to consider signing it.

Wet Noke

Wet Noke

I’m not asking you to stop eating meat, become a vegan, never go fishing or hunting, or picket Cabela’s. I’m asking you to empathize with these animals because whether you would like to believe it or not, they do have feelings. Those feelings and thought processes might not be as complex as humans, in most cases, but they exist. They feel pain, they feel fear, and they feel love, or some sort of affection at the very least.

Everyone says who cares, we’ve evolved into a superior race and while I’m not going to argue that, think about a time that you felt like you were going to die. Maybe you broke a bone, maybe you got food poisoning, an 105 degree fever. Maybe you had no idea what was wrong but you felt like hell. What saved you? I’m pretty sure if it was serious, it wasn’t you. It wasn’t your immune system. It was some form of aid. Now imagine that same thing happened to you in a completely foreign environment like a desert or the middle of the woods. What’s your chance of survival now? Exactly and knowing that, how would you feel?

While I know the goal is to kill these animals, let’s try and not do it in a manner that will cause them hours of pain and suffering. Let’s not force them to chew their own limbs off to escape, only to be killed within hours because they don’t have doctors or medicine. Our own dog has nearly chewed to her bone just because she had a lone flea on her body and if we didn’t help her, it almost certainly would have become infected and she would have died. That’s not a fun way to go.

So do me a favor and sign this petition if you have had, currently have, or want to have a pet. If you enjoy going to the zoo or the aquarium. If you value the lives of animals at all. And please before anyone gives me a hard time about my choice to eat meat; I only eat cage free eggs even though they’re $5 a dozen. I only eat free range chicken, grass-fed beef, wild caught fish, etc. Yes, Fit does a better job with her hunted-only method, but we try to make a difference. And if you do want to make a fuss about this, feel free to email me at hungryandfit@gmail.com. Don’t subject everyone else to your hatred because those negative feelings are one way NOT to stay hungry and fit!
