The Benefits and Difficulties of a Standing Desk

At work, there’s been a new trend of using standing desks. Our CEO has had a treadmill desk for some time now, and perhaps others have been inspired to improve their health. I jumped on this trend as well–as I don’t love sitting for 7-9 hours. Many studies have been coming out (like this one and this one) about why sitting all day is bad for your health.

Do Pre-Workouts Actually Work?

Well, I’ll tell you one thing, they won’t do anything if you don’t! Performance enhancing drugs enhance… performance but they don’t magically give people biceps bursting out their sleeves and eight packs. Now, it’s up to you if you want to spend a part of your hard-earned paycheck on some powders with artificial flavors and food dye to make them actually look like “fruit punch.” Obviously, just like any other consumer good, there are better and worse products based on the principles and practices of the companies that create them. Without naming any names, I’ll say that companies that constantly talk about the science behind their products and are more transparent are safer bets. If a company relies on using sex, popular people, flashy labels, and other marketing tricks to sell their sub-par products, save your money. And, if you have any specific questions, feel free to send me an email!

The #7 Greatest Video Game of All Time

Number 7. Hungry and Fit’s favorite number! This is a big one for the Greatest Video Game of All Time countdown.  If you missed the others on our countdown, please check them out: #25, #24,#23,#22,#21,#20#19#18#17#16#15, #14#13#12#11#10, #9, and #8

#7 Greatest Video Game of All Time

Kai – Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – One of my favorite RPGs ever, KOTOR and KOTOR II are two of the finest Star Wars games.  They capture the core of Star Wars, making you feel like you’re really living in the space opera’s universe.

It’s a fairly linear RPG, with most of the exposition happening in dialogue and resolved in combat (with force powers, sabers, and blasters).  There’s also card games, pod races, and space travel.  You pick up all kinds of interesting allies along the way who serve as the party members on your adventures.

Perhaps the most innovative component to KOTOR is the dark side/light side aspect.  As you play, the choices you make affect your character’s force attunement, changing how people treat you and the types of force powers you can use.  I never managed to be much of a Sith, but there are real moral choices to be made.

If you’re looking to live in the Star Wars universe for a week, I can’t recommend anything other than KOTOR and KOTOR II.  Their graphics may not be quite up to par, but the story and characters are well-written and well-acted, so it still really holds up today.

Millennium Falcon Cookie Cake

MAY THE 4TH BE WITH YOU! It’s that time of year again, and boy does it feel good! Two big disappointments in the Star Wars world for me–one, I missed the annual Star Wars convention (ugh) and two, I don’t have any Star Wars apparel. What?! That doesn’t even make sense. Oh well, at least we have the common sense and decency to celebrate today. How are we going to celebrate? We are going to have a Star Wars movie marathon (no prequels, sorry) and also play Star Wars cards! Yep, it gets nerdy around here–especially when Fit’s brother joins. Lastly, we are baking a Millennium Falcon Cookie Cake. Epic, I know. All it takes is some decent batter and the artistry of Hungry. For this Star Wars recipe, you don’t need any pre-formed molds, just a butter knife!

I have been a huge Star Wars fan my entire life, my brother and parents brought me up to breathe it in like air. So this day is always fun for us. Why not celebrate what you enjoy?

Had to get our props out :)
